Using our Lived Experience and Expertise to Shape a better Care Experience for Black Children and Young People in Children’s Social Care

Welcome to The Black Care Experience®. Our vision is to see that every Black Child and Young Person remains connected to their Culture, Identity and Heritage as they journey through the UK Children’s Social Care System. Our vision is also to improve their Care Experience, Outcomes and Life Chances.
Black we define as a Child and Young Person whose Ethnic Origin is either African, Caribbean including Mixed Race with African or Caribbean Heritage.
The Care Experience, we define as being in Foster Care or in a Residential Children's Home.
Our vision is made possible by bringing together an inclusive and diverse Network from the Children’s Social Care Workforce and Voluntary Sector Workforce within Children’s Social Care, to empower them with knowledge and insight on how to improve their systems and practice by learning from the Lived Black Care Experience. The Network also provides a space for best practice to be shared.
Our vision is also made possible through the hosting of Events that inspire hope and bring together our Black Children and Young People In Care and Care Leavers.
