My Culture Care Box™

Our research tells us that Black Children and Young People growing up in Children’s Social Care can feel disconnected from their Culture and Heritage, which has a knock-on effect on their Identity that relates to how they see themselves and how they see their community.

That’s why we’ve created our My Culture Care Box™ with resources to help affirm their Identity, give them a sense of belonging and help our Black Children and Young People feel connected to their Culture and Heritage, they can be proud of.

Our My Culture Care Box™ is designed for our Black Children and Young People In Children’s Social Care (Foster Care and Residential Children’s Homes) who are age 8 – 16.

We recommend that a My Culture Care Box™ is purchased by the Care Givers, for the Black Child or Young Person who are directly in their Care.

The My Culture Care Box™ will transition with them throughout their time in the Care System and it will also become a reference point for them in adulthood.

In the My Culture Care Box™ they’ll receive

This Is For You (Card)

Our This Is For You Card, carries a message that tells the Black Child and Young Person know that they are SPECIAL, they are UNIQUE, they are LOVED and they are NOT alone.

Where Are You From?

I AM 365 Affirmations for Children and Young People with Care Experience + Motivational Book Mark

A book and motivational bookmark designed to help Children and Young People with Care Experience overcome negative and unhealthy thoughts and change the way they think about themselves, their lives and their future, and guide them to make positive changes in their lives.

Our Research tells us that the aspirations of Black Children and Young People in Care are not always affirmed or championed which can cause them to believe and carry negative and unhealthy thoughts about themselves, because of what someone has said about them or because of how they have been treated. The truth is none of the negative and unhealthy thoughts are true, but the Children and Young People repeat them as if they are and tend to live their lives by them.

To change that, here are 365 Affirmations, one for each day of the year, to help the Care Experienced overcome those negative and self-sabotaging thoughts. The Affirmations are positive statements, that if regularly repeated out loud, can help them start to change the way they think about themselves, their lives and their future, and guide them to make positive changes in their lives.
